Complete beginners (18+) are welcome regardless of fitness and aspirations. We will help and encourage you to run in a fun and supportive environment. Led by registered Run England leaders. Beginners will ‘graduate’ with a 5k Parkrun at the end of the course on Saturday 17th June then complete 4 transition runs to build up to a 5 mile distance.

UPCOMING RUNS AND EVENTS (new runners welcome to all):
Chapel Allerton Runners have been affiliated to the English Athletics Association since 1992. We enter a range of road, cross-country and fell races as individuals and as teams including local relays, and have our own annual club championship. Most of all, we run because we enjoy it! People join the club for many reasons, including of course wanting to get fitter and improve their running - it doesn’t matter whether you’re a novice, preparing for your first longer distance race, or aiming to lead the pack. But the key reason to join is for the support, experience, competition, and friendship of our members. It's also an easy way to meet new people – running and socialising together once or twice a week is a very quick way to build strong friendships! Running in a group is also a great way to keep you sticking to your goals especially through the cold wet winter months.

There’s always people staying on after the run at the Clubhouse each Wednesday and we hold a range of other socials and events. Many weekends there will be smaller groups of people doing races and sharing transport and support, including at the Saturday morning parkruns across Leeds and beyond. We cheer on our fellow runners at the big local events, plus the London marathon (including those who win their entry places each year through our prize draw). We also organise a club trip abroad each year, an annual BBQ, an awards presentation after the Abbey Dash 10k race (Nov), and a Christmas dinner after our fancy dress Santa Run!
We prefer that you pay your CAR and GSSC subs together, £45 (From 1st April 17), payable to Chapel Allerton Runners.
Chapel Allerton Runners charges £15 for a year’s membership, which includes UK Athletics affiliation fee (£14). Reduced to £5 for second claim membership. This also gives you a discount off the price of most races and local sportswear shops.
Gledhow Sports and Social Club charges £30 per family for annual social membership (Reduced to £10 for retired member). This is required for all full CAR members and included in the CAR fee, and means you have access to all the facilities including the bar, showers, pool/snooker tables, kitchen, sky sports etc, and can book space for parties and events at reduced rates.
Our Run England beginners course: which works up to a 3 mile distance, £12 for 12 weeks. These sessions are led by our Run England Leaders and vary depending on the abilities of those who attend so you don’t have to be able to run a particular distance. They can include a run/walk programme and a range of group exercises to make your introduction to running as fun as possible! The aim of the first 8 weeks is to work towards a Roundhay 5k Parkrun. Our main club night is Wednesday, starting at 6.30pm from the Gledhow Sports and Social Club. We have different route options each week so you can choose to run between 5 and 9 miles (plus our separate beginners group) in groups of different speeds. In Winter we run on lit streets on a variety of routes. In Summer we use trails through the greenspaces of north Leeds, and some weeks we start in locations such as Harewood House or Golden Acre Park. We also have speed or hill training sessions on Monday evenings 6.30pm from Gledhow, or on a nearby running track. This is for all abilities and is great for rapidly improving fitness in a supportive group.
