The Hotfoot was first run in 1961 when two members of the Tennis and Squash club challenged each other to a race round Chapel Allerton. The loser had to buy the winner a drink. Since then the Hotfoot has been run every year and has developed into the handicap event it is today.
As a Handicap run the slower runners set off first with the faster runners setting off later and trying to chase them down. There are trophies for the fastest man and lady, the first man and lady back as well as junior awards. Naturally the running club takes part in the event with members marshalling and running. There are some fast tennis and squash players out there so we need to show them what the runners can do.
The route –
The route leaves the club down Wensley drive and heads toward Harrogate road. The road is crossed by the old police station and the cut through the houses is followed to Gledhow lane. Then comes the drag up Little Switzerland to meet Lidgett lane. This is followed all the way to Harrogate road and then back to the club via Wensley drive.
